Julian and his team have just completed a new patio and garden path for us, beautifully linking the house to our garden room. From our first meeting to the end of the work, Julian, Sam and Ricky have been a pleasure to work with and a pleasure to have at our home. The main job asked of Julian and his team was to remove an arbour, its surrounding trees/bushes, pull up an existing path, pave the 6m x 5m space created and build a bespoke wooden pergola with a roof. The other task was to repoint a large area of paving surrounding 3 sides of the house. Despite often challenging weather conditions: hot and humid when removing trees and preparing the ground, cool and drizzly when building the pergola, all work was done to the highest standard by cheerful, polite and considerate professionals. The new paving and pergola look marvellous while the surrounding patio has been rejuvenated. I have no hesitation in strongly recommending 1st Class Garden Constructions to anyone who wants peace of mind, value for money and complete professionalism. A company that lives up to its name.

I’d thank to say a huge thank you to Julian and Richard for the 14metre raised beds they built for me. I was very impressed by their attention to detail and the thought that went to building the raised beds as my garden slopes down quite a lot and so each bed drops down by 200cm and they look fabulous, I felt I was consulted and my wishes were taken into consideration during the job. I’ve already started adding plants!! It was a pleasure making cups of tea for them.

They replaced our garden fence and it really is first class! Solid, perfectly straight and looking good. Dates agreed long in advance and respected. And the builders were very friendly, were careful not to damage plants in the garden and left the place tidy. I can thoroughly recommend this business, their work is well worth the price!

Julian Loveday and his team at 1st Class Garden Constructions worked their magic for us in September 2022, providing us with a large wooden deck, an 8-panel close-board fence with concrete posts and gravel boards, a new gate and a large custom-made shed. For us it was a daunting job, something we had been meaning to get round to for years, but from the word go Julian impressed us with his quiet confidence, obvious knowledge and vast experience. We could not have been more impressed with the quality of the work. The whole team (Julian, Ian, Sam, Dave and Ricky) were hardworking, conscientious and friendly. It was fantastic to see them take such pride in their work, and the pleasure they obviously had in seeing it through to an extremely high quality finish. Whenever Julian encountered a problem (and we had a few - awkwardly placed manhole covers, large tree roots, a neighbour’s wall which had slumped onto our fence line, etc) he took the time and trouble to find the best solution for us. The spec was never compromised and the outcome far exceeded what we had hoped for. We have absolutely no hesitation in recommending Julian and, if you choose 1st Class Garden Constructions for your project, we are sure you will soon be writing an ‘absolutely delighted’ review just like this one.

There aren't many businesses specialising in greenhouse repairs and, as the wetness in our greenhouse increased, we needed help. Julian made arrangements and diagnosed the problems without fuss. He and his assistant David turned up punctually. They worked steadily throughout the day, always polite and ready to explain the causes of and solutions to fix the various leaks. They removed, cleaned and reset the glass, and our dry greenhouse after a subsequent night of rain is a tribute to their precision and attention to detail. They left everything immaculate, even taking away packaging and waste. We can recommend the business - you may have to wait a while for your turn, but it's worth the patience!

Julian and team designed and delivered a bespoke workshop extension for me. It was an awkward shape and Julian came up with some practical ideas to make it work. And make it work they did. I now have a solid design and structure that was efficiently put together, taking care to get it right by some of the most amazing people-friendly, thoughtful, helpful and polite. I recently had some fencing work carried out by Julian's team. The 2 lads on-site worked hard, full days, were very communicative in what they were doing and answered any questions I had. They were prompt, polite and all work was carried out to a high standard, I would definitely use again and recommend.

The site was always left clean and tidy at the end of every workday. Any problems that arose were dealt with in a very calm and professional manor, such as not being able to get a skip in the drive! Careful not to disturb wildlife or plants that inhabited the site area and for me the big plus was that the team did not leave my job to visit other clients until my construction and landscaping was complete.

My primary requirements were for a new lawn, new stone patio and a perfectly semi circular low brick retaining wall to complete the renovation of a small urban back garden. Julian impressed from the outset, listening intently to my requests, methodically surveying the work area and responding promptly with his quotation. He, Ian and Jack were a pleasure to have on site, always leaving the garden tidy and remaining cheerful throughout, despite having to work in some pretty dreadful weather conditions! I was delighted with the quality of their workmanship, so much so that I asked them back to lay similar retaining walls in our front garden, which they have just completed. Julian and the team have done great work, and were polite, punctual, tidy, and great value. I wanted to replace an ageing fence that affected 4 other properties, plus a shed. Julian was particularly helpful in suggesting solutions for the fence, and volunteered that he would also be able to source/build a replacement shed, which made my life much easier. Julian was very honest managing my expectations given the impact of Covid on global supply chains at present. This is the second time I've worked with Julian; I'm very pleased and would definitely recommend!

I contacted 1st Class Garden Constructions based on positive reviews in the Little Green Book, and was not disappointed. I needed new decking and a balustrade on a summer house to replace what was there already, which was decaying and falling apart. Julian came out promptly, assessed what I wanted doing and came back with a quotation. He and his colleague then carried out the work to the agreed timescales, to great quality, to the quoted cost and all in a responsible socially-distanced manner (this was mid-June 2020). I would thoroughly recommend - thanks very much!

Julian Loveday and his team undertook a major rework of my back garden for me, including the replacement of the lawn and existing paved areas with new paving, the construction of curved steps between the paved areas, the construction of retaining walls, and the replacement of the rear fence. It was quite a complex job with a lot of curved edges. I am very happy with the result, which looks really good. Julian takes pride in his work, pays a lot of attention to detail, and was keen to ensure I was happy with the outcome. The whole team were friendly and polite. On the basis of this experience, I would strongly recommend Julian for this type of work.

After my garden shed had been severely damaged by the impact of a falling oak bough, Julian Loveday and three assistants dismantled it and installed an excellent new shed in its place, all within one day. (Of course I had to wait a while for this: Julian is understandably in considerable demand.) This included removing from the old shed and replacing in the new one a long, wide workbench that it would have been hard for me to manage without help. I regard this as entirely satisfactory and good value for money. The firm is well named!

Julian and his team came round to build a brick/glass porch onto the back of our house to replace an old wooden one. The build took two weeks (as per our quote) and was a very calm 'experience' for us (which isn't always the case when work is ongoing). The team were friendly, helpful and very professional throughout the build. The porch looks even better than we thought and Julian clearly takes great pride in what he does as it was finished off meticulously. I had a few tweaks at the end of the build which were sorted the next day and, again, with enthusiasm and a desire to go above and beyond for the customer. This is the second time we have used this business and I would absolutely not hesitate to use it again!

In April we employed 1st Class Garden Construction to replace our old patio with a new sandstone one, having previously employed them in the construction of a bespoke garden shed a couple of years earlier. We were very impressed with Julian's thoroughness and attention to detail. The old patio's foundation was inadequate, so Julian and his team laid additional limestone scalpings and compacted them to bring it up to an acceptable standard. The paving was carefully laid in a random pattern and neatly pointed. Julian and his team were very polite and helpful. When Julian was quoting for the work he explained how he would carry it out, and where the skip and materials would be stored so we knew what to expect. It was a pleasure to have them work for us, and we would not hesitate to recommend them as we have every confidence in them.

I asked Julian from 1st Class Garden Constructions for a total quote to pull down my old shed, extend the concrete base, purchase and erect a new shed. He came and had a look gave me a quote, I gave him a deposit and off he went. We agreed a date, slightly delayed by the snow and he and Ollie turned up and did a lovely job. The shed was taken down and the concrete laid on the 1st day and the shed delivered and constructed 2 days later. They were a pleasure to work with, I must say the quality of the shed is excellent, better than expected and the workmanship in levelling and erecting it was excellent. Whilst I can't really say whether they are cheaper or more expensive than others I can say the work was 1st class :) (Pun intended)

They avoided damage to trees which were growing in awkward positions, left the garden clear of all old materials and prunings, and were helpful and friendly. They replaced this with a beautiful patio arrangement (recommended by Julian), a new shed and new turf.
