James replaced the bannisters on our staircase, and some other general repairs to the staircase and we are very pleased with the quality of the work delivered. James was very friendly and has done a great job, and used his knowledge and enthusiasm to help us make some decisions when we weren't totally sure about what we wanted. We have already recommended him to our neighbour, and have used him and his brother for another job we had. I have nothing negative to say about James from the first contact through to completion.

We used James and Liam to fit some Velux roof windows and are very pleased with the work they have done again. This is the second time we have used them now, and we have already spoken to them about some other work we have. The windows are just what we wanted, both James and Liam are very friendly guys, but also very professional. They involved us in any decisions, and kept us informed throughout the job. They kept the work area clean and tidy, couldn't ask for any more.

• James and Liam did literally half a job. They were hired to fit 8 new doors and trim 5 cupboard doors.
• They fitted 4 of the doors and then told us they were harder to fit than they first thought and charged us an additional £10 per door on top of what they had originally quoted.
• They did not come around to quote for the job in person – suggesting COVID-19 restrictions.
• I chased James to see when they were coming back to finish the job and then Liam (the brother) told me via text message they could not finish it for “personal reasons”. I would not recommend them.

• The agreed work and quotation were for labour only - for fitting and hanging 8 internal doors provided by the client into existing door openings and linings. 
• A sum of £70 per door was quoted with the client providing all the materials except for one new door stop. This equated to 8 x £70 plus £10 for the new door stop totalling £570. 
• It was explained that this quote covered for a straightforward fitting, but if extra works to the existing door linings etc were required than an additional charge would have to be made - all verbally agreed.
• We agreed that these works should be completed in one full 8 hour working day for two men and we would have to confirm when this would be due to current workload.
• We arrived on site around 08.00 am to start. After inspecting the doors which were of a cheap quality, we were advised that there were no latches or hinges available as the client had not purchased these. 
• As agreed, this was a labour-only job, we were not supplying any hardware or fittings. The client apologised for the misunderstanding, but this immediately delayed the job as we now had to leave the site for two hours while we purchased the necessary fittings from a local builder’s merchants.
• We noticed that some of the existing door frames were in poor condition and advised the client that these should be replaced. However, their poor condition meant that a considerable amount of extra work was required in trimming and fitting the new doors into the existing frames. 
• Due to the additional time needed for the 4 downstairs doors the client agreed to pay an extra £10 per door
• By around 3.00pm we had only been able to complete the first four doors with the remaining four first floor doors still to complete. It was obvious that we were not going to finish the 8 doors as planned within the one day allowed. We advised the client of this saying we would come back to complete the remaining 4 doors on another day but could not confirm a date straight away due to our workload. 
• We thought it only fair that the customer pay for the work done that day. Eventually, the client agreed to settle the costs of the days work – 4 doors X £80 plus cost of hardware and fittings. We agreed to get back to them shortly with a date when we could return to complete the remaining doors.
• We later contacted the client by text explaining that we were unable to return to the job due to personal reasons

PUBLISHERS’S COMMENTS

There was clearly poor communication at the outset as Gleeson Carpentry were not advised about 1) the door frames being in poor condition, or 2) latches and hinges had not been purchased. Clearly it would have all worked out better had Gleeson Carpentry inspected the job at the outset when it would have been clear that up to two days’ work was necessary in which case the quotation would have been rather different. Both parties should learn from this unfortunate experience!

Excellent work by James and Liam from start to finish. Everything very impressive including the very detailed Estimate and frequent progress reports. 5 ***** workmanship and the whole experience was made very easy for us. Even the freezing cold and wet weather could not stop them. We strongly recommend you employ the Gleeson Carpentry lads.

Delighted with our staircase refurbish. This was not an easy job because the old stairs were awkward shape but we got exactly what we wanted.

James was able to fit us in sooner than expected and made a great job of hanging two new internal French doors (which required quite a bit of trimming to fit the older door frames) and disposed of the old doors. Very polite and tidy. Can't fault - would recommend and use again.

I’ve used for them for various carpentry jobs such as Internal doors, skirting boards, decking and flooring.  In terms of professionalism, integrity and standard of work I thought they were fantastic – they gave me various options on styles and materials with lots of helpful advice on each to help me make a decision. On each project it was completed under budget and on time. The quality of workmanship was exceptional – very thorough and the finish on each project shows this. I will definitely use for future projects - Highly recommend.
